Part of the Shared Lines: Kaikōura Festival programme

Whales premiered in the NZ Fringe Festival 2013, where it won multiple awards including the overall Best in Fringe award. Since then it has toured to communities and festivals around New Zealand. In 2017 it had two-week season at the Capital E National Arts Festival and toured to Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it was shortlisted for the Sustainable Practice Award.

Binge Culture’s multi-award winning Whales is a community-building event that was bought to Kaikōura as part of the SL:K programming. Through rehearsals and performance the public and performers work together to save a pod of stranded whales, and keep them cool, calm and comfortable until they are ready to return to the ocean.
