The Greening Spaces Project was initiated as a response to the earthquakes. The project developed a relationship between the site owner and a nearby school, whereby compost and wildflower seeds would be scattered and a waste land would become a beautiful space.

In 2011 seven schools participated on sites across the city and over the summer the seeds germinated providing a colourful space in place of rubble. The project was set up to provide activities for children affected by the earthquakes and to give them a sense of ownership and renewal.

緑化プロジェクトは2011年の地震に呼応して始められたものです。このプロジェクトでは、土地所有者と近隣の学校との間に良好な関係ができました。その場所では、野生植物の種が蒔かれた後、堆肥が施され、やせた土地が緑豊かな土地に変わるのです。 2011年、市内各所で７校がプロジェクトに参加。夏の終わりには芽が出て、がれきがあった所に色鮮やかな空間ができました。このプロジェクトは、被災した子どもたちに行動する機会を与えるとともに、土地所有と再生の感覚を養ってもらうことを目的に始められたものです。
